Mahmoud Aljawabra is a contemporary Arab artist. He belongs to the 4th generation of Syrian modernist artists who were taught by early pioneer such as Mahmoud Hammad, Fateh Al-Moudarres, and Nazem Al-Jaafari. Aljawabra’s early artworks were focused on local identity themes depicting scenes from his rural hometown in a simplified Realism style. Later, he adopted an Expressionist style to work on local and global issues and to bypass censorship while being critical of social and political issues.
